OUR NEXT CONCERTSNEQ Returns to Hillside Club with Mozart's Viola Quintets! Following their Amadè-Athon of Mozart's late quartets in 2014 and an epic cycle of Beethoven's late quartets a year later, the New Esterházy Quartet returns to the Hillside Club in Berkeley to play all six of Mozart's Viola Quintets in three concerts. Joined by guest violist Cynthia Keiko Black and oboist Marc Schachman, they will be heard in an intimate setting in front of the massive stone fireplace of Berkeley's historic Hillside Club at 2286 Cedar Street. "Oboist Marc Schachman?" you might ask—yes, Mozart himself arranged his own C minor Wind Serenade, K. 388, as a viola quintet, K. 406, transferring the first oboe part directly to the first violin part. So by giving the first violin part to our friend and colleague Marc Schachman, we are pleased to present an oboe quintet version of both Mozart's original and his later arrangement. The concerts will be held on Wednesday evening, September 11 and Friday evening, September 13 at 7:30, and Sunday afternoon, September 15, at 3pm. For tickets and more information, go to the Hillside Club's website: Once you scroll down you can see not only our picture, but also pictures of Cynthia & Marc. And you can read about the Hillside Club's history and activities elsewhere on their website. We look forward to playing some of Mozart's most enjoyable chamber music for you!
